Crosby’s torch draws coverage

At least one Pittsburgh media outlet will cover Penguin star Sidney Crosby carrying the Olympic torch in Nova Scotia today. The TV station, WPXI, is planning to fly in a crew.

Crosby’s torch run to take him up Brunswick Street

People hoping to catch a glimpse of Sidney Crosby carrying the Olympic Torch on Wednesday will likely need to camp out early.

It was announced yesterday the 22-year-old Cole Harbour hockey superstar will jog a mere 300 metres along Brunswick Street in Halifax with torch in hand before handing it off to Olympic snowboarding hopeful Sarah Conrad, who will then light the cauldron in Grand Parade Square.

Crosby is expected to receive the flame at the corner of Brunswick and Sackville Streets around 6:50 p.m. With the multi-vehicle Olympic procession in tow, he’ll run to the corner of Brunswick and Carmichael Streets, then be picked up and whisked off to the World Trade Centre for a post-run media blitz.

Crosby is one of 12,000 people selected to carry the torch as it makes its way across every province and territory, eventually ending up in Vancouver in time for the start of the 2010 Games on Feb. 12.

The flame arrived in Nova Scotia yesterday morning, and is scheduled to pass through Antigonish, New Glasgow and Truro today.
