Crosby’s visit to market makes fan’s day

Kevin Dykstra sees a lot of people during the run of a day at Masstown Market but none like the man he met yesterday.
Stanley Cup champion and hockey icon Sidney Crosby stopped in for lunch on his way to Prince Edward Island with a few friends for a round of golf.
“One of my co-workers was over in the restaurant at the time and he came running over to tell me because he knew I was a big fan,” Dykstra told the Truro Daily News yesterday afternoon.
“I am a Canadiens fan but I am a big fan of Sidney Crosby and I watched every minute of the Stanley Cup final and was quite happy to see him win.”
The Great Village resident received an autograph and had his picture taken with the young superstar to remember the special occasion.
“I was quite excited just cause he’s famous, one of the best hockey players in the world here at Masstown Market,” said Dykstra, who has worked at the popular market for about three years.
“This is pretty good … I’ll remember this for a while.”
He said Crosby was “quite talkative” and signed autographs and had his picture taken with some fans.
Dykstra talked to the Cole Harbour native about being injured for the final half of Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final when Crosby’s Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the favoured Detroit Red Wings.
Crosby was at the market for about 30
minutes.
It’s not the first time Crosby, who once suited up for the Truro junior A Bearcats as a midget-aged affiliate player, has stopped at the market. In the late summer of 2006, market employee Thomas Dawson also had the opportunity to meet the star centre.
